Regulation has limited research into cannabis compared to agriculture because it’s federally illegal. But more and more research is arriving on the scene. The Sustainable Cannabis Coalition plans to be a source to promote this research to the market.

We as an industry need to Read, Understand, Comment and eventually Drive future research answering the question “Should the cannabis industry fund no strings attached research?” until it becomes easier for universities and AG Extensions to get fully involved. Until then we as an industry and groups like the Sustainable Cannabis Coalition and Resource Innovations Institute should provide the platforms for  showcasing this research.

A case in point is the paper listed as a Resource on the SCC site - An Environmental Analysis of Recreational Cannabis Cultivation & Processing - authored by 2 undergraduate students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). This paper by Stephanie Salerno and Jacqueline Valsamis was part of the inspiration for the formation of the Sustainable Cannabis Coalition. We decided to setup a coalition as a means of elevating both the paper and the undergrad student authors. Part of the reason for elevating this paper was that, the authors generated this work despite being ignored by every contact in the cannabis industry they attempted to have peer review this paper!

So now is your chance as cannabis industry experts to contribute to peer reviewing these students paper, not just for the sharing your industry insights, but for also for improving the value of a paper that inspired the birth of the Sustainable Cannabis Coalition.

Please read the section or sections you have experience and expertise in and start a discussion in the SCC comments section.  We hope the discussion overwhelms our blog comment handling capability.

Here’s an initial list of research. We’ll be growing this this list as fast as we can.

If you have a paper to add send us the link or comment it below. We’d especially appreciate submissions from groups like:

Together we can work together towards creating a more sustainable future. #BeTheChange
