Trulieve

Experts suggest that up to 80,000 acres of forest are disappearing from the Earth every day. While Trulieve Cannabis Corp. (Trulieve) is busy cultivating industry-leading strains of cannabis for patients and consumers across the country, it has never lost sight on the impact its operations can have on the planet. Trulieve always strives to find new and innovative ways of supporting delicate ecosystems, whether it’s the deserts of the Valley of the Sun, the thousands of coastline miles in the Sunshine State, or the country roads of West Virginia.

Trulieve has a long-standing commitment to sustainability as demonstrated in the publishing of its inaugural Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report in 2021, the first report of its kind in the cannabis industry. Looking for unique ways to positively impact the environment, Trulieve partnered with One Tree Planted earlier this year on multiple reforestation projects. As the need for reforestation is global and ever-changing, One Tree Planted highlights where trees are needed the most right now and makes it possible for anyone to make a difference.

The mission at One Tree Planted is simple: global reforestation. The goal is to make it easy for anyone to help the environment by planting trees. One Tree Planted plants one tree for every one-dollar donated, full stop. They have conducted tree planting projects in North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Pacific totaling over 40 million trees in 47 countries since 2014. In 2021, they more than doubled their impact in 2020, with 23.5 million trees planted.

Trulieve donated to two reforestation projects identified by One Tree Planted, one in Florida and one in Arizona. The Florida project is focused on the Myakka State Forest located in Southern Sarasota County. The area is mostly comprised of mesic flatwoods with a longleaf and slash pine overstory. The Myakka project aims to restore the overstory on the site, which will be critical to maintaining both the diversity and structure of the flatwoods community. Numerous marshes are scattered throughout the flatwoods, providing many opportunities for viewing wading birds and other wildlife.

The Florida project has now concluded and Trulieve’s impact has been shared with staff and our operational communities. The project was a resounding success and facilitated the planting of 156,000 trees to restore 528.80 hectares of land across the Myakka State Forest. This activity also created 25 jobs in the area and benefited five wildlife species. Trulieve welcomed the opportunity to positively impact one of our key ecosystems in the Sunshine State.

Trulieve’s second project with One Tree Planted is the Arizona Wallow Reforestation Project. Planting is still underway and more details about its impact should be released later in the year.
